Workshops for Mothers
Gathering the Tools
My workshops are designed to provide tools, and to invite mothers to make
their work of motherhood visible to themselves in ways it has not been before.
The underlying overarching theoretical and thematic concept is that motherhood
is a process, in motion and fluidly adaptable. When you choose to participate
in a workshop or discussion group, you are ready to look at this process,
and shift it to work better for you.
I love designing workshops. It’s an intuitive process for me, and
is creative and rewarding. I love the magic that happens when mothers gather
with intention and the willingness for transformation. I love being with
you during this process, and I love designing workshops that are constructed
precisely for your needs.
I’ve included a sample of workshops I have done, since it’s impossible to include them all. My special skill is to deliver a workshop based on the needs of a few women who want to spend some time together reflecting upon a motherhood related issue that interests them.
The Power of Story
Stories shape our truths. Some stories have been handed to us through generations. However, there are very few stories that tell the truth about motherhood in a mother’s voice. In this workshop, mothers will explore the stories that are defining their personal growth.
Creating The Weave
A mothers’ world is immediate. She responds to the organic process
of her family’s growth. Like growth itself, her work is unpredictable,
and at times, pulls her in many directions. Yet each day, mothers braid every
strand of this work into a weave that has integrity and personal commitment.
In this workshop mothers will engage in making this process visible to themselves. They will also discover common strands across all the patterns that make up their daily lives. The goal is to do this in ways that help stitch up the fragmentation that prevents a mother from feeling whole, peaceful and vibrant.
The Ocean Within You: Motherhood as Transformation
This series of workshops focuses on the personal transformation happening to mothers. A Mother’s Journey has been largely unnamed or devalued. Yet it is as ancient and as powerful as Creation itself. When mothers begin a personal process of naming and owning the stages of their journey, they tap into The Ocean Within.
1. The Birth of a Mother: When a woman becomes a mother, two babies are born.
This workshop helps mothers open up to the needs of the woman they are
becoming.
2. The Middle Years: This time of transition requires a mother to embrace
deep emotional and physical challenges. During these demanding years, there
has been a subtle separation between mothers and the rest of the world. In
this workshop, mothers will pause and reflect on where they are.
3. Teenage and the challenge to Love: There is a cultural push away from
the mother during the teenage years. This can feel like an assault upon a
mother’s heart. She is criticized and pushed away for doing the very
things that were necessary, and still are. In this workshop mothers will
learn how to negotiate this challenge and redefine love.
4. Renunciation and Rebirth: The empty nest (which can begin as early as first grade for some mothers) heralds the shedding of a way of being for a mother. She must let go of much that has defined her. Dealing with this stage involves confronting loss, and discovering what might lie on the other side. In this workshop mothers share where they are in this process, and how to keep their growth alive and vibrant.
